I have a south bend lathe that I'm a bit puzzled about. Here is what I know. The catalogue number is CL 670 RG and the serial number is 34937K. I believe it to be a model A light 10 (10k) with a 4 1/2 ft bed. What is confusing is that it has a gap bed and I cannot find any mention of south bend manufacturing a light 10 with a gap bed. I called South Bend and they couldn't help me but referred me to this forum. Is the "G" in the catalogue number indicative of a gap bed? I can't find any info to indicate it is. Also I have not been able to determine year of manufacture. It's been unused for a number of years and I am disassembling it to clean, inspect, and replace any worn parts. The bed, even the gap portion, still has most of the factory scraping marks so I'm guessing it is a newer lathe or one that wasnt used much. It is 12 speed with quick change gear box, micrometer apron/saddle stop, 1 1/2 x 8 spindle, and a thread dial. What have I got?
