Oil in FP2 Vertical Feed Nut Cavity

Hi fellow Deckelites.

In the German manual I got with my 1966 FP2, it says to fill up with 2 litres.
But the same manual in the US says ½ a liter......

What to believe.....

And I suppose it has to be filled slowly around the feed nut. I just emptied it - it was rather black, of course.

Fortunately, until now I've hardly used it in the 10 years I've had it.

Cheers

Believe that mistakes happened back then, and 1/2 US gallons are equal to 2 litres...:smoking:

I'm still stupid - I'm filling it through the nut - it's taking forever.

Of course I could've lifted the saddle, if I had finished my crane and pulled back the headstock (Y-axis, ram?).

I think it's still easier to do it my slow way, as I try to avoid dismantling stuff unless needed.

Cheers

Eric,

A quick way to do it is:

- Remove drain plug and drain the old oil.

- Attach plastic tubing and a fitting to the drain hole.

- Pump 2 liters of oil into the plastic tubing.

- Pull fitting and quickly attach drain plug before the new oil drains out.

Does this mean you've got your FP2 back into operation???

Cheers,
Bruce

Hi Bruce. That's a sneaky way of doing it - thanks. But I'm already half way there, so I'll just keep on.

Yes, finally I'm serious about this. I want to build my gyrocopter and it has to be now or it will be too late.

I am taking Private Pilot's License (just ground school for now) - UL, which I'll later convert to gyro.

But I have two challenges: 1. Money and 2. I can't find a good source of 6061-T6 aluminum in Europe.
These are holding me back - as always. To fund my build I already sold my High Speed head to Eric here
(another happy FP2 owner). A nice deal, as both parties were happy - that's as it should be.

OT: Do you know of a source that can supply 2" x 2" and 1" x 2" 6061T6 alu?

Cheers
Erik

Did you try aluminium 6082?
I think that's better available in europe and about the same.
But im no expert.

I wonder if they'll sell only to a company? And their prices.....
Erik

Just give them something that could be a company name, pay with credit card. I doubt that it will be a problem.

As for price - I bought some 7075 from another UK supplier. They provided certificates which I assume you will also want. The price was 'significant'.
