A note about getting The Lathe into your basement, and possibility of disassembling for that purpose:
I know nothing of your specific circumstances for in/out access, but there will be a vast difference in getting a 10-12" lathe moved in vs. a 16" machine. Obviously, different mfrs. have different specs, and a given size swing machine will be different between makers, but the weight of a 16" machine could be roughly twice that of a 10 or 12" lathe. If you decide that a larger machine is the path to take, look carefully at how you would reassemble parts if you need to disassemble for ingress.
