I have a 2018 Grand Cherokee. Two days ago my car flashed a tire pressures low warning. OK. I added air and all was well. Later that day I got an EMail saying "Safety Warning, tire pressure indication."

Thinking it was perhaps a recall I opened the message.

It showed my VIN#, then the tire pressures, mileage (32,299), dealer info, and percent of oil life remaining until change.

So, I'm thinking this is sort of a generic averages type of deal and some kind of sales pitch for service and don't give it much thought.

Later on I went out and checked my mileage. It was dead nuts on (32,299).......W. T. F........???

I called the dealer service rep and he said, "Oh yeah, your cat is monitored by satellite"..........W.T.F.....???

I asked if I could opt out of being monitored. He said "you can't".......W.T.F..........???

I asked what all was monitored and what was done with the data. He said he really didn't know.

Now I don't have anything, or much, I want to keep secret but just what is being monitored/recorded? Car location via GPS, speed, braking force, acceleration/deceleration, etc etc etc. Who gets to access this info? Law enforcement, insurance company, lawyers, private investigators, ad infinitum?

BOY! I don't like this AT ALL.............Bob

It's amazing, and sad, how people accept being sheep. A lot of them...most of them...even pay for the privilege.

It's also incredibly unethical behavior on the part of car companies...but then, it's the same for Apple, Google, Microsoft, and so on.

The computer will prove to be the death of mankind. It enables the stupidity people used to only dream of.

Search for "Disable Jeep UConnect" and find a few different ways to turn it off.

Regards.

Mike

I suspect the sure way would be to find the little antenna and wrap it in copper foil, which will likely cause alarms on the dash.

Mine quit working when we moved, now I only get the messages when I go to town leaving me thinking it is a cell based thing not satellite but I have no proof of that.

Years ago when GM first started installing their OnStar system on new cars I was fearful that we were headed down the wrong path? Now everything is out of control. If they can't monitor your car they are watching you on all the cameras that are everywhere? Your phone gives your location at every moment too?

it is just orwells 84 . its everywhere and in every thing we do . and most of us give THEM every thing THEY need to screw US . you

recherche on line ? THEY see and send you some ads . you pay other then cash in hand face to face THEY know . and then there's the

cameras but hey that's this modern world we live in . all WE can do is to try and limit what WE give THEM but for the most part THEY

know and that's that .

I think you might be referring to 'black box' things that might be mandatory these days

I just wish I could get may car to stop texting me, its like a bad girlfriend.

Yeah, yeah, I actually know how but there are a couple things I like it to tell me

As we fly Russian/Chinese aircraft the 1937 Oldsmobile was done up in the design of the 281st Assault Aviation Division of the 14th Air Army for display and parade purposes. Chang and Oldsmobile.jpg

I was out of state with a girlfriend and pressed Onstar button to get directions from a rest area.
The girl's voice in the rearview mirror says
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. ......"
I asked first, how do you know I have a passenger, how do you know it is a female and why do you assume she is my wife?
"oh..uh..oh..no, we don't have that kind of information..."

Guess you didn't see the hackaday article where a white hat managed to put a Jeep into limp mode, remotely.

That's been "fixed". So they say.

I mean, the particular vulnerability that guy used is probably sealed up tight.

Buddy of mine is an IT system security specialist for the U, and he went out and bought himself a 2012 Focus, "It has a level of electronic integration that I am comfortable with."

Sometimes I like to ask people if they would be OK with a human representative from Big Corp, INC to come into their house, poke around a bit, take receipts out of the garbage cans, and make some suggestions on what to do next. Most people say no.
