That has nothing to do with it being electric, and everything to do with it being always online and capable of receiving updates over the air. Lots of modern cars are doing that regardless of their power source.

Name a modern car with a combustion engine that can be disabled over the air. In fact, electric cars are being built with not just update ability but actual disabling.

But regardless, let's pretend this is a non-issue. It doesn't excuse all the other faults with electric vehicles.

Oh, and of course, the raw materials needed to make an EV come from our largest competitor, and require massive amounts of mining. You notice how all the tree huggers ignore that.

thats not what caused the explosion. they triggered the FTS (flight termination system - aka explosives) to detonate it. waited long enough to gather the data they wanted, then blew it up.

It was suggested to be a RUD by the webcast hosts as well as SpaceX Twitter. Would FTS activation count as a RUD ?

Didn't GM add that ability to Onstar over a decade ago? :skep:
As in most great technological developments, Cadillac was way out in front. Onstar since 1997. Remember, they had V16 engines way back in 1930, way before Wartsila. Ol Elongated Muskrat has been nipping at Caddy rear bumpers all his life.

Every vehicle that has support for any substantial OTA upgrade capability to its systems (not just infotainment) can theoretically be rendered inoperable. OTA is not performed through some form of magical link though - it relies on wifi or cellular connectivity. In the absence of such connectivity (change your wifi password or pull the cellular antenna out) your gay vehicle will be immune to the quirks of the POTUS.

If your car has fuel injection, it's got a computer. Some models of internal combustion car are completely drive-by-wire, which means when you make any control input, even stepping on the brake, you're making a request to the computer. Doesn't that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? And if it's got a modem, it's hackable. Some commenters on Ars Technica say they've clipped the modem cables on their cars for safety.

We can dive into the paranoia even deeper by suggesting that every IC made in China may have a secret CCP kill-switch built into it which can be activated by sending a specific bit sequence anywhere within a legitimate payload. Such kill-switch can easily be added as a side-car and without alteration to the original IC design or function... Now everyone get scared! :D

History is full of people who fought very hard to put their own neck in a noose. You might recognize some of their names - they are the ones who are extinct. Today's dopers, liberals, and AI/EV fanboys will be to thank for our society being added to the list.

was talking to my buddy that still works there (i used to about 7 years ago), he confirmed at least 1 blew up lifting off the pad, and in total there were up to 6 engines that went out. but ya they have blast shields for this reason.
i was nervous as fuck watching it lift off the pad, with how slow it was i didnt think it would for awhile...
they'll be able to make HUGE progress from the data gathered here. i have no doubt they'll be launching starlink sats with starship this year.
Yes, the early USA rocket experiments had a lot of failures but eventually got men into space. I'm sure this private enterprise will eventually do likewise.

Well, OK, if you're dumb enough to buy a GM car in the first place....

And let's not forget when they came out with those cringy OnStar systems in the first place....normal humans recgonized they were the beginning of the end.

So anyway....so far all we've come up with is the defeatist argument of "Well, they are already screwing us so there's no reason they shouldn't screw us harder...." It's funny how people will eagerly accept this sort of approach to life yet if you same the same thing - 'If you're getting raped you might as well lay back and enjoy it" they get upset.
