The Democrats have figured out there are enough people dependent on government (at all levels, not just federal) in some way - either working for the taxpayer, working for a government contractor, or just flat out dependent on public support - that if they cater to these people, then they can win elections, especially Presidential.
Of course they will also get the votes from the people who "hate" the wealthy, and the cronyism that goes along with wealth.
Mitt Romney was right, 47% of Americans depend on the government in some form or fashion for survival. Yes, this remark probably cost him the election, but it was spot on. Get this 47% to show up to vote, along with all the "career" Democrats, and we won't see another Republican President for decades!
You gotta give it to the Democrats, they have outsmarted the Republicans at their own game.

That doesn't make it right. There is also a difference between some dependency on the government and total control of government over individual rights, which is where the Kenyan is taking us.

They depend on the fact that when they pay their taxes, IF the IRS does their job correctly, they can depend on the government to NOT take their house, their savings, and NOT throw them in jail.

This is the most important dependency of most law abiding Americans on the federal government.

But, if you break immigration laws.....you can DEPEND on the government to look away.
If you run a "sanctuary City" and feel like ignoring the justice department......you can DEPEND on the government to look away.
If you happen to live in Colorado, or Washington state, you can ignore federal drug laws......you can DEPEND on the government to look away.

We depend on the government alright.
