Hi chineshop_guy:
I have no direct experience, but my Lovely Wife is on anticoagulants (but not for a stent...she has Atrial Fibrillation) and she complains of prolonged bleeding and bruising when she bangs herself up around the house, but she describes it as a nuisance rather than a crisis, and has done nothing more than curse a bit louder when she nicks herself with a kitchen utensil.

So unless your doc is alarmed by the prospect of you bleeding out, I wouldn't get too fussed.
Be sure to ask though.

As for wearing gloves in the shop. I've never been a fan except for the obvious tasks that require them.
If you rip off a finger or a hand because you got snagged, you're gonna have a lot worse problems to deal with than a longer bleed time from a minor cut.

By all means get the gloves, but don't get in the habit of always having them on.

Cheers

Hi Thunderjet:
I second the Superglue...works like a Hot Damn.

BTW, surgeons use the authorized medical formulation of Superglue called "Histoacryl" for wound closure at something like 100 bucks a bottle.
Basically the same shit, just formulated under stricter standards and with a fancier applicator and a fancier label.
So you're good to go with a dime store bottle at under ten bucks.

Cheers

oh i know about not wearing gloves around anything spinning. most of my injuries seem to come deburring with a file or breaking something loose with a wrench
i deal mainly with stamping die stuff, which certain edges are left sharp.
guess i need to check my stock of super glue

Have had a couple friends on thinners, yes, if they cut themselves it bled forever, so maybe don't live in fear but be extra careful.

Did they tell you to avoid dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale ? That messed up one friend's thinners totally for a while, vitamin k is what makes your blood clot. I guess you don't want that, on thinners.

I had a blood clot in my leg out of the blue. I was on Xarelto for a year and a half.
I didn't notice any change in bleeding at all. I'm still on a low dose aspirin every day and again, I can't tell. It must be an individual thing.

Well…..
I was given the standard cocktail after a ischemic stroke of statin, blood thinner and baby aspirin.
The neurologist was concerned about hemorrhaging so wanted to limit me to 20 days on the blood thinner.
Poor quality scans which suggested a more dire challenge with secondary major stroke changed the script to 90 days on the blood thinner.
Well at day 45 I threw a subarachnoid hemorrhage,
I don’t recommend it..

Forget a cut in the shop.
The danger is a hemorrhage in the liver, intestines or brain.
A Bandaid isn’t going to help.
I remember well the bedside manner of the neurologist.
“Well you have a 40% chance of dying within two days if we don’t do anything.”
“What do you want us to do.”

I was like “well you better do something- what you do is your call..”

Baby aspirin is no longer something you age into.
The increased risk of a hemorrhage outweighs the benefit for all patients who haven’t specifically exhibited heart/stroke symptoms so the prescription is no longer made for the general population.

For me after the debacle with blood thinners I was found to be specifically subject to dose regimen issues.
Bleeding was happening- teeth, nose, and bruising everywhere (I never generally bruise).
As it turned out I got liver damage and the brain bleed.
For me it was a complete shit show.

Wifey is on eliquis($$$). Blood clots quickly so no issues there. Her propensity to bruise went up significantly. No dietary restrictions limiting vitamin k like she had with warfarin(very cheap $). Don’t know anything about your med but posting so you can see that there are significant variations..

I was on blood thinners during and after post viral myocarditis caused by a virus I picked up in Hong Kong. Heart rate of 210 and atrial fibrillation. I second EG about dark green leafy vegetables which is a bitch in a Chinese hospital where that was the only vegetables I got.

More too the point, no excessive bleeding or bruising. I did have issues around being light headed from blood pressure medication so be careful if you are on those as well.

Good luck with your recovery.

Those lazy cookers probably took advantage of the fact you couldn't complain. We got peas, corn, green beans, carrots, broccoli (nope, dark green not allowed), cauliflower, bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, eggplant of several types and colors, squash of several types, tomatoes, green yellow and red peppers, onions, potatoes, cucumbers, several I don't know the names of and of course, ice cream.

I would demand an apology :(

I’m on plavix for life, I wouldn’t be concerned myself, I’ve cut myself, and yes it bleeds a lot due to the modified coagulation cascade, pressure on the area but it takes a long time, obviously if you amputate any bits or stick a grinder in your jugular your bolloxed anyway
But finger cuts, I seem to do fine with insulation tape till I get to the first aid box, you will get purple scars though!
I just got a quad bypass and my arms have holes all over from needles, you look conspicuous in short sleeves.
I take aspirin too, a good idea with all the myocardial stuff that no one is allowed to talk about (?) AF has popped up regularly since the “infection” so thinners are good, I got 2 mini strokes, sudden and scary more dangerous in a shop than a finger cut I’d guess

I have been on Coumadin (Warfarin) for 20 years because of Atrial Fibrillation. I do not have any dietary restrictions and eat what I want and drink what I want whenever I want. I am not disciplined enough to keep track of all the no no's. I get my blood checked regularly. I do not have a tendency to bruise easily. The only thing I have noticed is that minor injuries do take longer to heal these days. I am 81 years plus. My advice is be aware of your situation, but don't let it control your life. My heart doctor tells me, "Looks good, see you in 6 months. Rick

I have been on thinners and asprin for years. Half the time when I do on machine repair work I look like I've been in a bar room brawl I bruise so easily.I did have a stroke from brain bleeding a few years ago caused by one of the thinners.
I have harped on this before but for you guys that have had your first stent or bypass you have to get the mind set that they are NOT cures. They will bide some time to change. They are the start of a pathway to a heart attack if you don't change your lifestyle somewhat(eating habits, exercise and medications).
I am up to 14 stents and 5 bypasses and all the medications I have taken have not stopped the blockages until I started on Repatha then Praluent and now back to Repatha(because of insurance games). There is a new one out Incerlin (sp ?) I think one shot every 6 months. Because of them I have avoided a heart attack am still working at 78. Heart tissue does not regenerate after damage from an attack.

Those drugs are not considered a first line treatment and I think it is criminal that the system is so ingrained in the statins that most Docs never mention them to their patients .
