Puma 400LC. Two speed gear box. MTB manuals do not list C spindle in the specs.
Serial number: P35L1940
I would like to know what the max spindle speed is in each gear for this particular machine.
Called DN Solutions. Was told that my inquiry would be forwarded to technical. Been 3 days and no response.

In G97 Mode, via MDI, execute ever increasing spindle speed and note if the actual RPM equals the RPM commanded. Keep doing this until there is no increase in actual RPM respectively with the RPM commanded. Start with big jumps until there is no increase, then pull back on the commanded value and program smaller values (eventually single RPM) until no increase is seen. The last value programmed before there is no increase will be the maximum RPM for that gear. Repeat for the other gear range.

Bill

I've done that with several other machines that had no MTB support. Just thought it would be nice to have some support from MTB for a change.
There is a tag on the machine with 3 different hydraulic chucks listed. Max speed listings range from 1500 to 3000 rpm depending on the chuck.
This thing has a 25 inch manual 4 jaw on it.

The spindle itself can hit 1500 RPM in high gear, which is really cooking for a machine that size.
That large chuck, however, may not be able to handle that kind of speed.
Max RPM is low gear is about 650 rpm.

Update. Sneaked up to max rpm in low gear. 415 rpm.
Chickened out at 750rpm in high gear--pendant shaking more than I'm comfortable with.
FWIW, spindle bore is about 7.12.
Chuck is a Bison. Stamped 4313-25-15.
Curious to know what the minimum usable spindle speed in high gear would be.

Family of shafts that I want to do ideally would have rpm range from 375 to 900 at 400sfm.

More confusion.
Looking thru parameter manual(21i-TB) 4.17, parameters of spindle control: 3700-3924, these parameters have values other than zero:
3708.0=1 arrival speed check
3730=993 gain
3732=10 spindle speed during gear shift
3740=20 time lapse from S command to arrival speed
3741=0 max speed in gear #1 ????????????????????? max at 415rpm.
3742=562 max speed in gear #2
3743=2000 max speed in gear #3 ???? not present.
3744=3600 max speed in gear #4 ???? not present.
3771=50 min speed in CSS
3772=3600 max speed in CSS
Totally confused on 3741 thru 3744. Why are there values for non-existent gears?
Are there parameters elsewhere that affect spindle speeds?

OK, some of those parameters are not used. So they're irrelevant on this machine.
If she's shaking the pendant, back off, the chuck or drawtube may be out of balance.

While on the subject of parameter confusion-------
5002.2 LWT:
0 = move tool when offset applied
1= shift coordinate system when offset applied.

Machine is set to 0. Would prefer to set to 1.

However, on parameter screen, there is no label at 5002.2. There are labels at bits 0,1,4,5,6,7. Not really excited about changing the unlabeled bit.
