I did my apprenticeship at Longbridge, starting in 1970.
The toolroom was huge, over 100 machines if I remember correctly. Austin used to build their own transfer machines, using a modular design, and that tool room used to do the machining. I remember a big faceplate lathe that could turn about 6 foot dia, yes horizontal spindle, and a huge planer.
