Replaceable Guideways

Dredging up an old thread.

In this thread there is a guy replacing a front guideway on an old No4. I don't remember my No.3, M-1200, having replaceable guideways. Is this something on the larger machines? Do the No.3's have replaceable guideways?

Lots here to look through - personally I never heard of replaceable ways on W&S

Some English Turret lathes have replaceable ways ......'U' shaped to fit over the cast ways.........sometimes these things can be fixed by reversing front for back,......however ,in general the replacement ways as a new spare part cost a lot more than an old lathe is worth,and if you cant figure out some method of using the old ones with an unworn surface ,its not practical.

That was my reaction too. Yet, there they are swapping out the ways like it's an everyday thing. Now I have to start looking a little closer at these.
