He's talking about round ways. The cintimatics, both vertical and horizontal, used those. Worked good.

No, he is talking about round bar machines. Not just ways, not just lathes. I suppose any lathe is really a round bar machine. It s job is to turn the work into a round bar.

I remember working on 2 different round way machines. The ball bearing style is wimpy and doesnt hold a candle to the lubed bushing style.

Drummond Bros brought out their “round bed”lathe in about 1910. I very first had a go on a Colchester Bantam at tech,and after tea that evening I had a try on fathers round bed Drummond. The rest is history…. That old Drummond had come off a ship and was well used at sea,and by dad and me. I never could find any slack in the saddle.
