I have just removed the right hand leadscrew bracket on my 1942 SB9C. The bearing seems to be very soft, does anyone know what material it should be?
Thanks
Bob
I had never heard of it but Wikipedia tells me that it was used as a cast-in-place bulk bearing material. The Leadscrew scored the bearing a bit as it came out as it was quite well jammed in Any suggestions about any remedial work required.
Thanks
Bob
Don't worry about small scratches and dings in that bearing. As long as the shaft is clean and smooth it won't tear up the bearing. That bearing can stand a lot of clearance, say .02-.03", before you need to worry about it.
