Here is a link to a less advanced setup with out the automatic indexing or gearing to allow a steeper helix.
I remembered seeing in my printed copy of the book.

Some Tool and Cutter grinders also use a similar setup for hob grinding.
They vary a little from one maker to the next .
Some are more advanced than others but most non CNC machines I've seen don't have the automatic indexing .

The last shop I worked at had 2 of these helix shapers
We made grinder rolls for industrial coffee grinders
The rolls were white cast iron Hard as hell We used carbide tooling in a very rigid set up and very small steps

I worked a place that did a similar job on chilled iron mill rolls for grinding up used automobile tyres. We used special carbide tooling. Same sort of set up though.
