Heat of 155/160 deg C is considered the point beyond which hardness is drawn in a 1% C steel......however most gears are tempered at a somewhat higher temperature so they are not brittle .....so you may be able to heat much higher without anyone finding out.
Speed is of the essence in shrink fitting. As fast as humanly possible is the way to go. I’m talking less seconds than you can count on one hand for a small job like that. How quick is your robot ?
I’ve done loads of shrink fitting and I’ve got the grey hair to prove it.
HI, everyone, sorry late for the update, so, we have increased the temperature to 220C, and the stuck problem was reduced to single digits of occurance out of hundreds of builds...
