Sodick Wire Breaks

Hello,
Would anyone be able to provide me with help information regarding wire threading after a breakage.

Our company has a Sodick AL6000Q wire EDM. We cut large perimeter shapes on plate from 2mm - to 20mm thick. Currently the machine is set to return to origin and thread after a breakage the dry run back through the cut path.

Is there a setting to allow it to rethread at the break point? and if so how to I enable it and is there any other settings that should be changed , flushing pressures or wire tension fir instance.

Many thanks in advance

You can go to Settings, User 2 and top left you'll see AWT Reference, you can make your change here. There is a variety of ways to re thread and return to your cut, I would read through the info on the right side of your screen when selecting the method you want to use.

I don't use in-slit threading on mine but there are some users here that can probably give you some more info of what if anything needs adjusted parameter wise.

I asked this same question last year of so, look through my profile to find the thread. Shane, commented with the exact settings to do just this.

I use it when rough cutting large shapes, it takes an eternity to get back to the break point.

There is a setting also to change the 888 speed. However the wire gets caught on corners if too fast.

I credit this quote below to Shane.

“yes.... settings, user 2, upper left corner is AWT REFERENCE. Set at 00 will not thread the wire. Set at 01 will return the thread point and dry run back to break point. Set at 10 it will thread at the break point. If it fails threading there after 3 tries it will go back to back to the thread point, thread and dry run back.”

Does the Sodick AL6000 use a pipe that extends/retracts to aide in the threading process? I run an older AQ750 that has the threading pipe, and during the threading procedure, it kicks the upper head out in U and V to compensate for the tube...in other words, I wonder if that is the case for the OP's machine...in that case in cut threading won't work.

No...these machines have the " fixed jet " awt with round guides. It anneals the wire from the top of the thread pipe to the bottom but the pipe does not come down past the guides. If the machine is set to thread in the gap it will not offset the upper head.
