A friend of mine has a South Bend 14.5 lathe for sale. I saw the lathe last night and I think it looks good. If anyone would like to get in touch with my friend, please email me, altex"at"cox.net . Thanks for taking a look, Tex
Here are the details:
The lathe in question is a 14&1/2" classic Southbend.
I think shortbed, about 40" between centers. Price is $1400.00
Good stuff:
Has a proper 220 volt single phase, reversible motor.
Has a taper attachment.
Includes 3 jaw and 4 jaw chucks, plus a large slotted faceplate.
Includes telescoping steady rest.
Includes a collet nose adapter for 5C collets.
Includes headstock taper adapter and dead center.
Includes thread dial, and crossfeed threading stop.
It is cleaned up, painted, all oil channels cleaned, new
GITS oil cups, new felts, and thrust bearings replaced in the crossfeed.
Have a copy of the manual.
The bad stuff:
Steady rest needs clamp piece that fits under the bed.
Can be fabricated from a chunk of bar stock.
The bed has a couple of thousandths of wear, as usual near the headstock.
4 jaw chuck comes with a backplate, but it is not mounted on the backplate. Backplate is smallish but workable.
Does not include toolpost or drawbar for 5C collets.
