New to me 1937 15" Catalog 114C lathe. Motor underslung. I recently put this "find" under power for the first time and encountered a slight issue. the carriage when engaged will transverse away from the headstock without issue, but when I try to transverse the carriage towards the headstock the motor dies down and stalls. Manually I can move the carriage either direction without much effort.
so any ideas?? It diagnosis as being in the carriage drive to me, but the only one direction is odd. Fundamentally it is the half nut engaging the lead screw right ????
