4 fluter?.................if'n you're gettin' it done with a 4 x1.25" DOC.............a 5 or six flute will more than likely work in my application.......................:scratchchin:

It's a six-flute SGS (Kyocera) T-carb. I live my life in the side-lock end mill holder world and it works for me. One of them whispy MasterCAM Dynamic Mill paths, something like 5% step over, 180IPM, 700SFM. It squeaks a bit when the em is new and sharp but if we stone the edges OR just let it run for a few parts in breaks in and stays (relatively) quiet. Good luck!

Now we have one and even though the parts are super simple,

I think thats key. Super simple is huge help for live tooling lathes. As the part gets more and more complex you need to have some serious qty to make it worthwhile.

I agree though, once its setup certainly cant beat it for large production runs. Live tool lathe with bar feeder is the ultimate production machine.

If you want to go nutty - SwiftCarb has their XM11 Series. 11 flutes and their MDC coating.

Their catalog is a bit nuts, but I suspect it is because they tool up a lot of Boeing's parts designed with a complete ignorance of the whole concept of DFM.
