This book is what all new machine spec's are based from. It is old but far from obsolete. It was originally written in German and translated to English. When I taught in Germany and Austria I saw copies of the German version. I bought the last 8 hard back books the printing company had in stock. You can see them on Amazon books, eBay and other used book stores.
I’m surprised nobody ever went to the trouble of up dating the illustrations. Of course the tolerances are basically what we still work to today.

Regards Tyrone.

I have it with me. I use it as a training help when teaching my classroom Q&A session

Here is another book that we call the Bible of Rebuilding. The Edward Connelly Book
Machine Tool Reconditioning. I also use this as a tool for my Students to look at during the classes. This book has a renewed copyright and you can't legally copy it as Dan Fisher who inherited the Ray Connelly Estate. Ray was Ed's Brother. Dan has sued people who copy it. I sell these books.

This is the first time I have posted pictures of my Class work-booklet I pass out to my students. I tell folks they have to take the class to get it. This is the 2022 updated version.

I am still teaching and it's getting harderr and harder for me. I will probably teach until I drop dead. I am teaching a class this week Mechanicsburg PA at a USA Defense plant. I have a post on it with photo's under this thread. Next month I will be teaching a class at All World Machinery in Rosco, IL - They import Okamoto Surface grinders to the USA and want their service team to learn how to increase productivety. I will be teaching a Clas in Cottage Grove, MN in April and other months of 2023.

I have and will continue to write about machine scraping and rebuilding on Practical Machinist until the day I die. I apologize if I seem to get bit crabby sometime as I hate to see people write about rebuilding and they are rookies or in my opinion fakes. People will be reading what is written long after all of us are gone. PM is HISTORY!

Rich,

I can fully understand your frustration with fakes. My suggestion would be no more Mr. Nice Guy. Just go ahead and list the incorrect and misleading information those charlatans are posting or have posted along with the correct information. That will do several good things.

Fisrt, it will prevent BS from being falsely placed into the PM archives---very important.

Second, it wil expose them for what they are. Nothing more needs be said. Simply exposing them will put them in their place and they will be (or should be) too embarrassed to show their face again.

Third, it will be good for your blood pressure.

Just my take on it. Good luck.

Denis

If anyone is unsure of what someone writes on here there are several of us who I consider Pro's.or close to being a pro: Tyron, JST, Milland, Matt Crit, NB Nag, Lucky 7, etc. Please write me if you have a rebuilding or scraping question. Free advice given to PM members on the phone, email or on here.. Also if you would like to take a class and can't afford it I will give you the class or give you a discount.

From my perspective and given where I live, copies of the Schlesinger book Testing Machine Tools are fairly hard to find. Fortunately having a physical copy isn't really required even though I'd still like one. But at least one edition of it is here https://pearl-hifi.com/06_Lit_Archi...s/Schlesinger_Georg/Testing_Machine_Tools.pdf

It's rare to see any misinformation remain unchallenged on the PM forums. Since I'm only a hobbyist, I see a whole lot more of that disinformation about machine tool alignments or how to make corrections posted time after time on those more hobby orientated forums than the pros here might. Even posting direct links to that industry standard Schlesinger information gets ignored on those forums in favor of who has I guess the highest post count. That seems to be the Dunning Kruger Effect on full display I suppose. So yes, what's here is and will be an extremely valuable resource for a long time yet.

Well said Richard.
Albert Einstein is reportedly to have once said, "Insanity is doing the same mistake time after time and then expecting a somehow different result". Einstein or not, it's still true.

In my career I got paid for my experience and rewarded by having that, so no real difference than it is with any other career. That experience was gained by making pretty well every mistake early on that could be made while figuring out what doesn't work. You were supposed to learn from that. A very few unlucky one's in my industry made non survivable OTJ choices. So you better learn from that as well if your even half way paying attention. And I can think of a few times where it was definitely better to be even slightly lucky than being really good at what your doing. One in particular that used to wake me up lot's of nights for a very long time.

I also live in a small town now and can't find rare books, but I was surprised to find that sometimes I find them in small shops with few visitors. But through the Internet you can find and order any book if you need a printed edition. Sometimes it is expensive and you can download the digital version of the book. But I feel better when I have paper books.

I can assure you that JST is no pro..... He's just persistent and a bit fussy, but still willing to let the spot count be lower where it does not have to be high....

I will say for the guy., he's willing to own to not being any sort of pro!

I just saw this today, and while I'm grateful for Rich's confidence, I have to state that I'm a total tyro and any suggestions I give should be double-checked with more experienced folk for veracity.

But the ego boost is welcome, Rich!
