Ok fella. Now you ARE treading the line. This would be a good time to stop.

As for the rest of this discussion, let's all of us steer it back on topic or drop it. It's obviously not very productive.
Pardon me sir but your bias is showing. Again. Still.

Just read this whole thread start to finish.
I'm a new guy here but even a new guy can have first impressions of a place.
To me Thermite was one of those who had been around too long. Guys sometimes think that their high post count entitles them to be condescending, arrogant and sarcastic to people. And to what end? Do they think it makes them look smarter?
There are new people joining all the time.
They come looking for info, not to be belittled. Thermite replied to several of my posts and not once did he give any helpful information. It was mostly just baloney, stream of conscious stuff. I wondered why he even bothered to reply. Maybe just to hear himself talk?
Reading this thread I see that a lot of folks think well of him and believe him to be pretty smart. But it is also important to combine smartness with a wee bit of humility and maybe a temporary time out will make him remember what these forums are for. They are a place to recieve and give information - without undue arrogance and condescension.
By the way, I may be new here but I'm not new to internet forums.
I belong to several. The one main tractor forum I frequent I've been there for 21 years and have 27,419 posts as of this writing. So I could be mistaken, but I do think I know a little about forum etiquette, about being helpful and about letting a high post count go to your head so that you become a hindrance rather than a help.
Mr Thermite, if you are reading this please remember that this place is about the dissemination of knowledge and it ain't at all about YOU.
Thank you for saving me a lot of typing. What I noticed about termite years ago is that he always seems to have a need to think he is smarter that everyone else in every way. And he can't keep it to himself. That makes a lot of his post condescending and unhelpful.

Nowadays I mostly just skip over reading his psychobabble but I don't have him or anyone else on ignore on this forum or anywhere else. And I think that he should be allowed to participate here even if we don't mesh well most of the time.

About the only reason that I can see for banning anyone is when it comes to physical threats of harm like I got from citizenf16 and one other member.

Sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me. My parents taught my siblings that saying at a very early age.

I'm so glad the three year old is back to spew his thoughtful opinions about stuff NOBODY was talking about.

NOT ONCE did Trumps name come up until the three year old manages to work it into a sentence.

Everyone else realizes that Trump is no longer relevant to anyone here who actually MACHINES STUFF.

Is trump a machinist? NOPE
Does trump own a machine shop? NOPE
Does trump have any employees who are machinist that post here? NOPE
Must be that you missed the post where this thread became political. It was a guy named Greg that posted about liberals in a derogatory way. That was how this thread went political. And once it goes political all viewpoints should be allowed to voice their opinions. (in a perfect world)

*Does trump have any cult members that post on PM? That is the more obvious question.

Then, there's the issue that EVs are soul-less drones that no man (or woman) can drive without losing 90% of what makes them a human.

A decent gas powered vehicle is Jimi Hendrix. The very best EV is Paul Shaffer noodling on his keyboard.
Are you one of those people that huffs exhaust fumes from cars to get a buzz and are afraid that your cheap source of a buzz is going away. That's pretty much the only thing that I can think of that would make someone think that 90% of what makes them human would disappear if they switched to an EV.

Thermite/Seamoss/Goldstein was the first profile I ignored. Has been an education in a failure that carves out an online, virtual persona. I can not conceive of being banned somewhere, than being so self-important to have any desire to rejoin. Only Explanation being, he has no real friends.

This is the comment by Gregsy that took this conversation political. Pay close attention to the last paragraph.

What is the opposite of a liberal? A conservative. Who is the face of the current conservative political party in this country? You guessed it. If not I can give you a hint. Think orange.

Post #69 by GretSY: "I worked with a guy who was a 'serious' Viet Nam solider...I've forgotten but he was a Seal or Green Beret or some elite force like that. He told me when he finally came back, all of the soldier were debriefed prior to boarding the plane. They were told 'when you get off the plane in California, walk briskly and in a straight line to exit the airport. Do not look at anyone, do not listen to anyone, do not interact with anyone.'

When they landed, they all did that...as they walked by crowds of hippies who were hurling insults at them and throwing eggs at them.

I thought about that a while, and then told him that every cloud has its silver lining; for he was witnessing the birth of Liberalism in the USA. That's like going to the zoo and seeing a rhino give birth, only far more offensive."

Conversely, just chanting "the election was stolen" with zero proof isn't very productive either. Something around 70 courts have thrown out literally every claim about the 2020 election being stolen and yet the trump cult members keep chanting it. You can't fix stupid.
Please point to the post IN THIS THREAD where someone said anything even remotely like that. YOU introduced the subject.

The point of this thread was someone inquiring about why no recent posts from thermite, which lead to a discussion about why he got a serious timeout and why others are risking permanent bans for repeat bad behavior such as insults and inserting politics in every thread.

On thine own head be it! Multiple moderators have cautioned you so the best advise given would be to think, pause, and throttle back any such behavior.

I didn't miss anything.

I still don't understand why you are allowed to constantly turn meaningful thread topics into horseshit.

"Liberal" is a thought process, an ideology, NOT a political statement.

Compared to many folks I'm liberal on certain topics, I'm a conservative on other topics, I'm a moderate on many.

Not everything is political.

Here's a direct quote from the rule book: "Political and religious related posts will be locked."

Please adhere to the rule book in the future.

Liberal, conservative, socialist, nazi, communist, etc... These are all political terms whose use on PM has nothing to do with metal working and only serves to divide us and encourage endless and pointlesss abusive exchanges. I know I'm not the only one who's been fed up with the jr high school level bickering and abuse that the moderators seem to have finally tamed.

Take it outside boys.

Is that supposed to be a man in the video? If not I can't see any reason to make fun of her anymore than making fun of someone who is morbidly obese or handicapped but then.....https://chargehub.com/en/countries/united-states/idaho.htm

Apparently "he" is "transitioning" which seems to be fully supported by his employer the Halton District School Board (see 0:53 to 1:15).

Personally I think he's either a true nutbar or bucking for a Section 8, aka Klinger on MASH.

Just the mention of "Thermite" produces a whole of site traffic. Site traffic is a good thing.
Multiple posts by some who appear infatuated with "Thermite". Interesting.
Time to lift the ban on "Thermite".

eKretz,
I would like to point out that Milacron is not the only person responsible for the wonderful success this forum is .The contributing members and their incredibly vast knowledge is really the core value of the forum. On this forum these old experienced machinists and tool makers speak English. They use all the English pronouns. They believe there are only two sexes and they do not tolerate stupid very well. This new software is NOT better than the old and the new moderators are over zealous in an effort to covert all of us to be "Woke". We are not. We will never be "Woke" and your efforts are trashing the forum. Maybe you have not noticed, but the thread rollover rate is much less than it once was. Until the moderators learn to distinguish legitimate criticism from impolite rudeness, they should not be moderators. Please remember stupidity, all by itself, is embarrassing and not the criticism of it..

Not sure where you got the idea that I was saying Milacron was the only person responsible for that. It's obvious that a forum only works because of its members that contribute content. And I'm also not so sure how you've lumped me in with the "woke" crowd. I only attempt to keep the peace between the sides that can't seem to debate each other without resorting to insulting each other every 10 seconds.

And for crying out loud, you guys; yes, I did ask that the discussion of politics and other OT stuff be stopped. Last time I'm going to ask. Put a lid on it.

I can suggest 3 or 4 more to make your ignore profile bullet proof. :drink:

No, actually, it isn't. I didn't make that statement due to political crap. He is starting to throw insulting statements into the mix. That is against the rules here. Stopping it right at the start is what prevents the snowball effect.

There is a certain group of members here that start insulting people whenever they disagree with another member. That is why they repeatedly get warnings and bans. Enough is enough.

The terrible way in which our Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned from service is a dark page in the history of this country. They were doing their duty, serving their country and deserved to have been treated with respect. Sadly, they were scorned and abused. Many of them wound up homeless or worse.
You are correct regarding the birth of liberalism in the US. I won't say more since I don't want to get banned. :rolleyes5:

I'm not sure that was actually even close to the birth of liberalism. That goes back to John Locke if I'm not mistaken. And yes, the Vietnam soldiers were treated terribly, and for a very long time. But yes please, let's steer away from that topic now.
