If you end up getting into the flat biz, once you wriggle the cutter around so the flat finds the tip of the set screw pull OUT on the cutter gently and tighten the screw. That way the cutter will already be out as far as it can be. If you push it IN when tightening the set screw then the pulling force from the helix of the cutter could still overcome the friction from the set screw and cause the cutter to pull out a bit until the set screw hits the side of the notch...assuming the width of the flat is greater than the diameter of the tip of the set screw.
