Do Toyota forklifts from the 70’s or 80’s use the same engines as Toyota cars? I need an engine for a Toyota 40-2FG20.

I know all the Nissan/Datsun/Komatsu forklifts used Nissan 4 bangers from 70's mini trucks. Toyota may have done similar.

What is the engine model #?

Furthermore, how did you kill it?

Some years back I bought some equipment from a guy going out of business, in the deal came a nice Toyota forklift with a manual transmission. We found out that the forklift was never intended to be inported to the United States. We found that repair parts could be a problem as many were different then the Toyota lifts that were intended for the U.S. market, although the lifts looked the same.

Good example was the Clark forks sold here had Holden car engines in them.....you could find an engine for $10.............now the Holden sideplate and Red motors used are in collector cars worth $30-40k.........so you are not going to get a forklift motor out of the for sale ads.
