Might have to start my own U Toob channel............Dangerous Dave's Recovery................This truck driver from EMJ always pushes the edge when turnin' around in the yard..........he's run 'er in the snow bank a few times over the years and always pulled through, but he finally got caught and needed a tug or two.............if'n he had some weight on the step he prolly would've been fine.................

I'm done with these Dunham pullers.....way too expensive and they like to crack n break off..........

I made 3-4 of almost every size I use

Now they just flex and bend a bit. When they don't grip enough they just need a tweak and they're back in business

Nice job Dave!
Studying your first pic, they look case hardened. No matter how shallow the case, if it is subject to never ending flex cycles, its gonna crack.
Once the crack starts, it is only another number of cycles before the crack propagates through the tougher core.
Induction hardening would probably be a better option here.
I'm no expert, and the chances of me being way wrong are high, LOL. But, I definitely see a shallow line in the material cross section of that first pic.

Yeah, they seem to have a hard candy shell...........I was having issues and talked to Dunham. O' course they'd never heard of my issues and sent me one freebie. But they just keep breakin..........I had a bunch of 4140 PH layin around and spun this batch up. I made some a while ago for all my bars over 2" as Dunham charges something like $150/puller. I just made those outa whatever I had lyin' about. 1018 or 1045. Those pullers have run tens of thousands of cycles and they just keep goin'..............
