Vernon #0 Horizontal Mill

I have a small Sheldon/Vernon #0 horizontal mill with a Rusnok vertical head that I would like to sell. It has a 5”X20” table with 9” of knee travel. It comes with an over arm, 5 Rusnok Collets –1/4” - 1/2” (1/16” increments), and 11 B&S #9 collets – 1/8” – 3/4” (1/16” increments). It is a great little machine that I hate to sell, but I need the room for a larger machine. I am asking $1700 obo. If you have any questions or would like any additional pictures please don’t hesitate to ask.

I don't know if the Rusnok head is uber valuable or what, but your price seems rather high for this version of the Sheldon #0 that doesn't have back gear or quick change on the table feeds.
good luck with that :willy_nilly:

Value is subjective. I think it would sell quickly for $1700 in the northwest. Guys keep posting in search of small mills and this covers both the horizontal and vertical market quite nicely.

I've never seen one of these before. It looks like a Hardinge knockoff albeit without the 3c/5c collets. If so, and if they got it right, it will be a good solid little machine.

It's no K&T but they are pretty nice little mills.

I just sold an identical machine this past weekend for $850. It was well cared for and nice and tight.
The castings on these machines are very wellmade and heavy for their relative size. Yes, they are similar in design to Hardinge but their B&S 9 taper tooling make them "fun" to tool. Mine had a full set of fractional collets and a matching 1" arbor so it was ready to go.
It went to a good home that will put it to more use than I did.

As for the price of the OP, I honestly believe it to be fair believe it or not. The fact that I sold mine so cheap is only reflective of my location and the economy. Better times and more demand would have drawn a better price.

Best of luck on a very well made machine!

Well, perhaps then I am incorrect and it is a reasonable price. It is true that price is subjective. They are nice machines, solid for their size. I picked one up a few years ago for $150. Only came with one arbor, but it has the back gear (planetary gear reduction) and a quick change gear box for the feeds. No vertical head though.

You got a deal.
Also, the Rusnok heads are somewhat hard to come by, and are a nicely made unit that is popular with home-shop types, so that does add a fair amount of value to this package. I sold a Rusnok head with one collet on eBay 7 or 8 years ago, and as I remember, I got about $800.

I once had one of these. The vertical head actually had an R8 taper on it. Sold that part to a fellow PM member for $325. I sold the horizontal mill (with a set of B&S #9 collets) to a local guy (also on the forum) for $250. Out here in the desert, people won't touch ANY milling machines (regardless of size) unless it says B'port on it. I thought the little Sheldon I had was a really cool little machine. I could see one that is tooled up and ready to run being worth $1500. Sometimes, it's worth the extra cost to be able to set the machine in place and start making chips.

That's actually a very nice-looking small mill.
The Rockwells are similar in size, but without the horizontal spindle, and a little lighter base, and they go for $1200 plus here in North Texas.

The sheldon is a nice looking machine.

The rockwell is a bit bigger machine. Has almost 2x the vertical travel. There are horiz versions. See here (scroll down to last pic):

Would you sell the Rusnok head and associated tooling for a price? That would give you two separate mills to sell. I already have the Sheldon Model 0 just need the verticle head.

I have no problem splitting up the Rusnok head and the mill but I would like to have a buyer for both prior to doing so.

Thanks,
Devin
