I have a EMS G5U-22P2 vfd that died on me yesterday. (short circuit on display).
I need a vfd to drive a 3hp 3phase 220v ac spindle motor. It needs to have a 0-10v control circuit.
Any recommendations, (within reason) would be appreciated.
thanks

Automation direct

Simple setup, has advanced features if needed.

Decent price

I use a few TECO Westinghouse FM 50s thy can be found on line for less that $200.00 I got mine from FactoryMation but thy seam to be out of stock of the 3HP model.

The TECO FM100 AC Drive, 3 HP, 230V 1PH / 3 PH Input, 230V 3 PH Output, 10.5FLA, NEMA 1, is an other option that may work for you.

I sure appreciate all the responces! I'll keep ya'll informed.

EMS brand labeled the Yaskawa drive - similar to Magnetek, Saftronics, and lots of other companies that used these for special applications like crane and hoist, winders, etc.

Yaskawa makes a pretty good VFD - certainly not a tinker toy drive. Look at how your drive is applied (does it have built in regenerative braking circuit? Programmable I/O being used for JOG / RUN functions / Selectable ramp rates / etc.)

You don't say what your application is - but if it is a high use machine that you depend upon - check and compare ratings and features before you get out your credit card.

This is for a spindle motor on a retrofit I'm doing. I have the dynamic braking coils. I need the programmable 0-10v anilog and for/rev.
I'm not sure what this constant torque/ variable torque is. Machine will be used in a r&d enviroment. Too many hungry shops out there for me to do production.
That Teco FM100 looks good.
Thanks

I recently got a Cerus 3HP drive. It is really nice and has some neat features like it can run two motors with two different sets of tuning parameters. Not at the same time of course. An input can be configured to swap between the two. The drive stops the motor and activates a relay to swap motors and changes its parameters.

I think Cerus used to be LG.

Not "used to be", Cerus is just a small company in Oregon that brand labels other people's products, including the LG (now LS Industrial Systems) drives and motor controls. You can buy LS drives from several other sources, including the LS office in New Jersey.

"Brand Lables other peoples products"?
Is that legal?

It is in most parts of the world. The factory I work at makes a product that we sell under our own name, and we private label the identical product for a number of our customers. We call it SSDL (same stuff, different label).

Swiss Precision Industries (SPI) puts their name of hundreds of different products, like the 5-C collet spinner made by Suburban Tool. Phase II does that as well, as does Fred V. Fowler.

They don't make the Teco-FM100 anymore. They do make a Teco CV-2003-h3 that seems like a full blown PLC to me.

TECO/Westinghouse 7300CV AC Drive, 3 HP, 230V 3 PH Input, 230V 3 PH Output, 10.5FLA, IP20, Frame 2 (JNTHBCBA0003BC-U)
200-230VAC 1 PH, 50/60Hz (Voltage +10% to -10%, Frequency ±5%) Input
Sensorless Vector & V/Hz control modes
Integrated PLC Functions
Built-in PID Control
0-230V, 3 PH Output
1 Analog Input (0-10V, 4-20mA, 0-20mA)
1 Programmable Multi-function Analog Input (0-10V)
7 Programmable Multi-function Digital Inputs
1 Analog Output (0-10VDC)
2 Multi-function Output Relay
Removable Keypad with Potentiometer
4 digit, 7 segment LED display
150% rated current for 1 minute
200% instantaneous overcurrent
Electronic overload protection and stall prevention
Ground fault and short circuit protection
UL 508 / cUL / CE
2 year warranty

They also make a FM50-203-c that seems a little simpler and about a $100 cheaper.

TECO FM50 AC Drive, 3 HP, 230V 1 / 3 PH Input, 230V 3 PH Output, 10.5FLA, IP20
115, 230 and 460V, 50/60Hz (Voltage +10% to -15%, Frequency ±5%) Input
0-230V, 3 PH Output
1 Analog Input (0-10V, 4-20mA, 0-20mA)
2 Programmable Multi-function Inputs
2 Operation Control Inputs (FWD/REV)
1 Analog Output (0-10VDC)
1 Multi-function Output Relay
3 digit, 7 segment LED display
150% rated current for 1 minute
200% instantaneous overcurrent
Electronic overload protection and stall prevention
Ground fault and short circuit protection
UL 508 / cUL / CE
2 year warranty

Is it worth the $100 for the extra features?
Thanks

My recollection is that the FM-50 cannot do three-wire control. I'll bet a beer the 7300CV can. Check what sort of control arrangement your application needs before plunging in on the FM-50.

Ordered the cv7300 from FactoryMation.com. After all the researching and help, it looked like a good price.
Thanks to All!
I'll update the thread when I get it in.

I installed the new cv7300 and turned it on in manual. It works fine. I'm haveing a few bugs getting it to cooperate with my breakout board.
have fun
