Drzipper, if that was directed at me about "Papa Smurf", yes I did. It is a newer version of the Prentiss no. 22, made sometime after Charles Parker acquired Prentiss in 1948. They re-numbered the vises, and changed the design slightly. 6" jaw, 168 lbs per a 1948 Prentiss catalog which lists Prentiss as a division of Charles Parker.

Picked up this vise the other day has a name of Tri-Vise by Simco on it. I'm not familiar with the vise but seems to be well made and welcome any info on it.

I got another Prentiss 456. Kinda funny there's no info out there on these vises, only found 1 other owned by a GJ member. and I find 2 of them lol, all 336 lbs. This one had a foot busted off the swivel base, but it was brazed up nicely. It was bought new by Goodyear or so I was told.

Picked up this old Dawn Offset vice yesterday come with the table, it was cheap to so I’m stoked!

Picked this up locally today from a welder/fabricator/artist type gal.
Traded her a camshaft out of a 3406 CAT that I was given for free.
Who knows how many years it sat outside. Totally frozen up. Missing one top jaw and 2 of the 3 pipe jaws.
She also threw in the clapper box from a shaper. She had no idea what it was. She does now. I told her if she finds the rest of it to call me.

MBI compound vise

Ah! Thank you, solidworkscadman. I've got one like that (yours is much cleaner), but the only ID on it is "Germany" cast into the body. The couple of old threads I found here on PM showing similar models didn't have any more info, except to show that some have lathe chuck-style jaws like the one you show, and others have more conventional vise-style jaws.

MBI was just the importer, but at least the time frame is pretty clear from the pre-zipcode address (Bronx 51) and alphabetic exchange telephone number (MA 4-2220).

BTW, MBI imploded rather spectacularly 1961-1964, when they lost the right to distribute the goods of a major Swiss tool company (DIXI, I believe). MBI's owner, Gerhard F. Kullack, absconded to Europe with most of money from MBI assets, and left all sorts of bills unpaid. (See this marvelous pissing contest in NY appellate court in 1965 between Kullack and one of his former attorneys suing for an unpaid bill. You may want to back up from where the link drops you off.)

I haven't been able to find any information on this Unico Microtiv 3" vise.
Only a photo of another one.
My favorite nmtb tool holders are made in Israel by ETM so for $40 I thought I'd see how nice this vise is.
The fit, finish and accuracy are top notch. Every bit as good as Hermann Schmidt.

I've been meaning to post this for a while, so here it is...

The huge one is a Barrett Machine Tool 308 1/2 Made in Meadville, PA, circa 1905-1910.

The large vise next to it is a Parker No. 39

Here is a vice I got with a Startrite drill press I bought. I liked it as I have never seen one like it before

Gave it a quick once over with wire brush and some xylene and it has a name!

It has already come in handy

What a name for a vise "Nippy" lol.
Unsure as to size of yours, but I have one with identical features throughout. It's Eclipse. I recall one marked Record. All are British addresses.

This is the Starrett Athol 326 I showed in post 769. Made some new parts for the swivel base and new jaws and handle.

Not my vise, but I thought it deserved to be posted here. Listed on Ebay from Austria, It's been on for over 30 days and relisted. The anvil clamped in the jaws is said to be 231 lbs.
