Wade no 5 precision bench lathe

Would it be sacrilegious to put a timming pulley at the spindle back to cancel the flatbelt ?!! It would take much less room then an undermount motor/pulleys /flatbelt carrier.

I know it's not meant to be that way but I'd like to make some chips soon!

I currently have a timing belt on my hardinge, a combination of 2 rivets and epoxy to splice. Because of the teeth, the rivets are held above the pulleys so, there's no "clack clack" with each revolution. The belt tensioner allows me to cut and re-spice a couple times on the same timing belt. I had several old timing belts from car projects past... I think the subaru belt worked best. The Toyota belt was too wide.

I tried one of the adjustable V-belts but they just slipped on the wide pulleys at any reasonable tension.

Serpentine automotive belt, run in standard configuration - not inside out. Works great.
