Hey all
I'm new to the site as I just picked up a WS No3 turret lathe. I'm going to do a full tear down, clean, paint, and switch out the 480v motor for a 240v.
I'm also planning to document (as best I can) the process of doing so as it may be helpful for others.
I have many of the manuals, thanks to this site, but in disassembling the cross slide, I was able to remove the handle, but the dial is wedged on pretty good and is just not coming off.
Does anyone know if it's just a matter tapping the dial through the small groove in the back, or is there an easier way.
Pics from delivery day and the cross slide attached

Looks like a nice machine, and I look forward to your write up as you rebuild it.

Would you know if your motor is original? If so, what is the hp rating? I've heard everything from 5hp, 7.5hp, and 10hp. I don't know if there were motor options or not, but I believe there was at least an option for a single and a dual speed motor (?)

Production lathes were always ordered job specific.......for instance ,there was always a collet spindle and a chuck spindle, and everything from motor spec to bed length was tailored to its intended use.

I think you have a little burr in the key? This only has two buttons, stop and start. Two speed motor would of had three.

Hay Dave, this is Dave..I just finished doing what you are now just starting and am so glad I did.. the last owner wasnt kind to my No.3 M-1200 an it seems let it sit out for some time until my saddle was rusted to the ways...that was the hardest part to take apart on mine the turret & Saddle then the Threading and Screw gear box was fun also.. I am a noob that is pretty good with my hands.. but never owned a Lathe before.. I found it very very very helpful to take a ridiculous amount of pictures with my cell phone, and notes.. Good Luck, take your time and enjoy it..
