You can point windows to a directory to look for drivers. You should be able to use your recovery partition and it will find it for you. I've never had to do that personally though.
What about a fresh install? I believe that's when windows won't use any legacy drivers.

If you have issues with that, first uninstall whatever driver it may have found that isn't working.

And if windows won't do it, I believe you can grab the drivers manually

My NVidia driver for my graphics card, even though I have downloaded the Solidworks certified driver now twice and reinstalled, works for a bit then becomes "uncertified" after a few days it seems when opening Solidworks. Not sure why. I keep ignoring it now.

Is there even a difference in performance/stability nowadays?

That's the problem I've seen- Back when I did a fresh windows 10 install on an old notebook, there were no 10 drivers for it but when I did an upgrade from 8 to 10 then it would use the old drivers. If it works on an upgrade, it would be nice if they would do the same thing for a fresh install.

Seems to work fine other then the annoying window that pops up every time I open the program. Also for some reason it keeps making me log in to the 3d experience, all though I have clicked remember password every single time.

SW seems to be good at annoying pop-ups. If you don't use 3d experience much, you can turn off the add-in.

My 3d connection space explore space ball no longer works, It says it's a discontinued product (which it is) and they don't even have an archived driver for it to work. Let me correct myself, it works, but the buttons are no longer programmable, so not really working. Just got a new 3d connection space mouse pro, now it works like a dream. It sucks to throw away a perfectly good unit just because there are no drivers that work, I even had all my archived drivers stored on our shop server, and went thru every one of them with zero success. The amount of time I spent on this last week trying to get it to work, I could have gotten 2 new space mouses.

My older computer, I use for Mastercam X2 for a particular job of machining/programming product, which the older software just works better for this usage, I haven’t let it see the internet in 5 years. Strange thing is that computer is as fast as ever and just keeps going.

I have an old 486 running DOS, and quite a few XP computers that haven't seen the internet since some of you were in diapers, still going strong

Pretty sure the press brake we just sold was rocking a 6502. Only issue it ever had is if you enter keystrokes too fast it can crash, but it resets so fast all you see is a screen flash and the backgauge has to rehome.

I hear you, it's frustrating they are sunsetted via their own drivers, effectively strong arming users into replacing perfectly good devices. On an old workstation I used a Magellan space mouse by using the old driver method and it worked for me. The only caveat was the 3d menu inside of NX didn't function but I was still able to control the behavior and customize the buttons from the 3dconnexion app. Perhaps yours called home after the install and altered the install.
