What's the best tool to use for squaring cross slide to lathe spindle axis?

You can use a dow pin screwed to a surface gage or do finish the cross slide and scrape the saddle bottom to square the cross slide. Or scrape the dovetails using a Blade Square touching 2 dowel pins and sliding the saddle left and right. I have a picture of that same place. There's a couple of ways to skin a cat.

Back in 2014 one of my students bought a Shars blade and granite square. He took them to a local tech school who had a CMM and both were bad. In the last CA class one of the students bought a Shars granite square and we tested it to my Tru-stone granite and it was perfect. So times changed it seems.
