Yale comes back around?

I originally got it around 1988 I think, put a lot of time into it. It was in a flood and the PO did minimal to it but kept on running it. The oil pan had 1" of mud in the bottom, you could almost see light between the pistons and cylinders they were so worn. Re-sleeved and rebuilt the engine. Then I got tired of the points and weak spark, so adapted a GM HEI distributor, all rough running and starting issues went away. Flushed the dif, trans, steering box. Re-did the brakes completely. It's been used a lot since, and they said it hasn't been run in several years, so no telling what condition its in at this point.

"The gift that keeps on giving".....
It truly is I guess. I never dared to add up all the money I initially put into it when I fixed it up, not to mention hours of time. But when the current owner was desperate for a pneumatic tire forlkift and they offered $3500 for it, I figured I'd never be offered more. So I sold it and luckily found the 1970 Yale awhile later. They wanted $1800 a couple years ago for this one, the '53 and I declined. But at $500, I can't resist. The '70 Yale was also a lucky find, the PO told me it had a massive oil leak and the engine was 'shot'. That turned out to be......a loose spin-on oil filter.

I went and had a look yesterday. Much more dilapidated than I anticipated. Heck, even the paint has faded. :bawling:
I knew the brakes stopped working some years back, and they were too cheap to have me fix them. So the brake pedal has
been removed. (It's laying on the floorboard at least). I guess the logic is, no brake pedal, so don't step on it expecting to stop.
I was in a position years ago, talking with a neighbor and watching an employee of current owner struggle in spring weather conditions with this forklift in their parking lot. Pushing a pallet (details escape me now) but anyway, he pushed with increasing throttle until it budged. And lurched, drivers arms flailing about helplessly as it ran smack into the back of a parked car in the lot with a dull thud. No damage done really, except for our sore guts from laughing.
Missing parking brake lever as well. They worked, so WTF is it missing? Missing radiator cap, with (I suspect) rain diluted coolant (and falling temps outside) means it may need accelerated attention to prevent freeze damage? And I think I understand why it ultimately was parked. Transmission shift tower held on with 2 of 4 loose screws, and the shift lever rotates in circular motion, something broke in the tower. Shifting is not possible with it that way. "Seems" like a possible easy fix....he said.....with clueless ignorance. :rolleyes5: (I'm refering to me, as I'm an eternal optimist).
Oil is low. Not clean. Filter is dated 2011, that I wrote on it back when they had me change the oil. I think there have been many hours run up since. I may fall back and lower my offer.

Reminds me of a digital camera dock printer I used to have. Had it since new with all the packaging for storage, paperwork, cables, adapters, software, etc. I wasn't using it much, so I gave it to a friend with a similar camera. A few months later he decides he doesn't really want it and gives it back, but it's JUST the printer dock now, none of the extras. I ask him about it and he says that he didn't think he need them so he threw it all away. Without the adapters, the printer followed suit eventually.

Funny ,but all the owner advice business start/buy stuff never mentions that if you get increasingly angry when your stuff is abused......then probably you arent cut out to have employees.

Spoke on the phone to current owner yesterday. He agreed to 400, and says he has a guy with a rollback that he will contact about getting it to me. This business used to be across the road from me, but now is 10 miles away. With current work load, and winter coming I am doubtful on one hand, that I'll get to do much with it till spring. On the other hand, with larger front tires and the chains, I do know it's better on the snowy-icy driveway than the '70 Yale. So there's that.... And there's not enough hours in the day most days.
