Yale glp, manual? Leaking cylinder

Put the new seals in. Need to reassemble. single hose cylinder. Hose on bottom. Seal gland on top. Cylinder filled with oil to the top. In other words both sides of piston full of oil. When the cylinder raises where does the fluid go? I see no return system or if it should have air on top. No vent. Whats the story?

It is a displacement cylinder, the oil on top of the piston/guide is allowed to flow around the guide freely, when fluid flows in thru the hose, the only thing that can give is the rod itself, so it rises out of the cylinder. Was replacing seals as easy as I said? You should be glad there was only 1 hose, the other kind sucks to work on.

Edit: I seem to recall there being vents on the outer/smaller cylinders.

Yes, the one hose models are just displacement cylinders.
On the 2 hose models, they have piston seals and the top hose is just a vent hose back to the tank. It’s main function it to just provide a vent, but does run back to the tank so if your piston is leaking it oil runs back to the tank and not onto the floor.
