Finally have time to work with a Yam 1428 lathe I picked up this fall. I've cleaned it all up, fluids flushed and all new throughout. Finished leveling and adjusting to .0003-.0004 taper over 8" with dumbell shaped free turned test bar. Having all kinds of fun and learning, but wondering about a collet chuck in the future and find that my manual from a Yam 1400 (cadillac folks supplied and said virtually identical) calls our a 1:30 internal spindle taper-I confirmed that with by measurement. Are there adapters to go from such a taper to say a Morse Taper? Its a D1-5 spindle.
