Dover, OH – Allied Machine & Engineering, a leading manufacturer of holemaking and finishing tooling systems, will feature several products at IMTS in their expanded booth location, West Hall – #431436, this September. Stop by Allied’s new product showcase to see the 4TEX drill launching this fall, the recently released Wohlhaupter NOVITECH vibration damper module and AccuThread T3 thread mill as well as Superion’s high precision PCD and Solid Carbide tools. Also in the spotlight is the newest GEN3SYS XT Pro insert for structural steel and the addition of the 33mm series to its APX drill line. Allied will also be inviting attendees to try out ToolMD, their advanced online tool providing direct access to thousands of 2D and 3D models.

Clockwise from top: 33mm APX™ drill, AccuThread® T3 thread mill, GEN3SYS® XT Pro structural steel insert, and the 4TEX™ indexable carbide drill.

Allied’s team is excited to share the new 4TEX drill with IMTS attendees this year. This innovative drill is ideal for making shallow 2xD, 3xD, and 4xD holes in the 12mm – 47 mm (.472” – 1.850”) range. The 4TEX drill’s single effective cutting edge provides higher penetration rates than standard twist drills on light duty machines. The center coolant outlet was eliminated to increase the drill’s core strength in this design, resulting in improved hole size and straightness.

Alternatively, twisted coolant outlets were added to improve hole straightness and penetration rates by enhancing coolant flow and superior chip evacuation.  Insert geometries for standard ISO material categories improve hole quality and penetration rate, while eliminating issues from chips wrapping the tool. 4TEX inserts are four-sided, lowering customers’ cost per hole. The drills will be stocked in both imperial and metric shanks with standard fractional diameters, as well as every ½ mm diameter up to 26mm and every 1mm up to 47mm so customers can be assured of fast delivery times.

Allied will also showcase Wohlhaupter’s NOVITECH vibration dampened intermediate modules, which increase boring operations productivity, surface quality, and process reliability while extending the insert and machine center’s spindle life. Inside the patent-pending NOVITECH system, the viscoelastically mounted damper modules reduce vibrations during the machining of diameters ranging from 1.97” –  8.07” (50mm – 205mm), up to 10xD.  The NOVITECH intermediate modules feature Wohlhaupter’s MultiBore system (MVS), making it simple to use with existing Wohlhaupter components and is compatible with any machine spindle.

NOVITECH™ vibration damper module reduces vibrations common in applications with long overhang.

Threading difficult materials?  Be sure to ask about their AccuThread T3 thread mill on display at IMTS. A recent addition to their threading lineup, the T3 is built for machining hardened or hard-to-machine materials such as stainless steel, tool steel, and high-temp alloys. It is designed to machine only three threads at a time which reduces tool pressure providing longer tool life, less tool breakage and higher quality threads for machinists.

Provided in both inch-shank and metric-shank options, the AccuThread T3 is made for deeper-than-standard threads, available in 2xD and 3xD. Allied offers this thread mill for UN thread forms with pitches from #1-64 to 9/16”-12 as well as ISO thread forms with pitches from M2x.4 to M12x1.75. Additional diameters are available on request.

If you are working in aerospace, automotive, or firearm applications, Allied has the solution for you. Through the acquisition of Superion Inc., their drilling line has expanded to include solid carbide and PCD drills. The solid carbide drills boast a wide diameter range from 3mm to 20mm and a depth-to-diameter ratio up to 20xD. Wafer style PCD drills range from 4mm – 20mm and can be customized to include multiple steps and a coolant through design.

Allied’s line of Superion™ PCD drills create clean, crisp holes in difficult materials like CFRP and other carbon fiber composites.

See the 33 mm series Allied recently added to its line of APX drilling products, which can double productivity rates compared to competitive products. Specifically designed to allow higher spindle speeds and take advantage of the power curve on modern CNC machines, the APX provides maximum penetration rates on deep hole drilling applications.

With its unique design, the APX drill provides excellent results in previously unmanageable deep hole and large diameter applications on low horse power machines. It is the perfect choice for heavy equipment manufacturing applications and is widely used in the oil and gas, wind, and other renewable energy markets.

Don’t forget to ask about Allied’s fresh addition to their material-specific GEN3SYS XT Pro line of inserts. The newest insert is specifically designed for structural steel applications and has an optimized substrate and multilayer coating to withstand heat. These features will increase tool life, reduce scrap and decrease the need for changeovers resulting in improved cycle times.

GEN3SYS® XT Pro high penetration insert handles the heat generated in structural steel applications superbly.

Rounding out their featured products, Allied will have its newly developed ToolMD online utility available if you’d like to take it for a spin. ToolMD is free to use and allows direct access to product data as well as 2D drawings and 3D models available for download.
