Hello Everyone, I am new to Practical Machinist. I have a machine shop to clean out and prices to generate. As being new, I need help posting pictures and prices of the machinery. I know I will need info on them and pictures. I have 5 Hendey laths, Three Hardinge Lathes, One Cincinatti Miller, One Hanson Broocher, One huge saw, Two surface grinders ( one Delta ), One tapping machine, One Milling machine, Two muliple Drill presses, One, Hardinge Chucker, One GE Welder, Two Brown and Sharpe Automatics, One Sunnen Honer, One huge Geishot with rack, One Huge Paper cutter, One Pratt and Whitney lathe and some I have forgotten. They are old but in good shape, just need cleaning. I need help listing with pictures and details. I would appreciate any help in proceeding further. Thanks so much Tepym51 [email protected] is my email

You can use eBay 'completed' auctions to get an idea on pricing. The accessories and other bits and pieces can easily be worth more than the machines. Try to keep all equipment specific tooling with the machines.

Picture, pictures and more pictures, with pricing. Let people know what the pickup requirements will be. Do you have a forklift? Ground level access? Timing?

Gishot Lathe $2000.00

Here is the first listing for my machine shop cleanout in Ct. Part I I will list more pics in part II Thanks so much!

You have at least one, probably two, to many digits to the left of the decimal in your price.

While you are looking over ebay for pricing help, pay no attention to asking prices. Only look at sold items to get an idea of actual value. Completed listings that are unsold give a feel for what is to much to ask, but no idea whether it is $1.00 to much or $10,000 to much.

And there is a for sale section at the bottom of the forum.

Hopefully the moderator lets this thread run. It's always cool to look at machinery photos. That Gisholt, what a beast. I'll be surprised if you find someone to haul it away without charging.

So sorry Carl, I apologise for any disruption. I will abide to all rules. I need answers to so many questions and would like to post the contents of my machine shop as well, piece by piece. I was a tool and die worker for 28 years and still so much to learn. Thus the forum. Someone advised me to this site and I didn't see your message because there is so much to comprehend all at once. I saw the second and figured it out. I don't even see the for sale section at the bottom of the forum that others speak of. I guess that is my first question. Just learned how to post pics as well from a helping sole in the forum. Again, thanks for your patience and for making this site available.

Work on your picture quality/lighting also. These look like they were taken in the bottom of a well at midnight with a candle. As mentioned some of that old stuff you may have to pay to have it removed, just no currant market value unfortunately.

Yeah, lesson one of PM - post professional backlit photos high-resolution from isometric perspectives. Apply gamma filters and if you can, HDR it or at least layer some exposures to adequately light all surfaces. C'mon, this isn't Craigslist.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Any price on this Gisholt lathe that works like a bear? Always had no trouble with it in any way. Way too high?

The advent of CNC lathes has seen the demise of the large turret or capstan lathe. A while ago every shop had half a dozen churning out parts. Now the same shop will have one or two CNC lathes.

Having said that from what I understand there's still some sort of specialist demand for large turrets over here. A dealer pal of mine told me recently that he can sell every " Herbert 9 C-30 " or " Ward 7 " ( very similar lathes to that " Gisholt ") he can get his hands on. Mainly they go to the third world.

The essential aspect of buying such a lathe these days is it needs to come with plenty of tooling otherwise just the lathe on it's own is not really a going proposition.

Regards Tyrone.

Can't help you on price directly but;-

There is a lot of older manual machinery about advertised at prices that bear no relation to the actual market.
Especially if time is of the essence, I'd set a price I could live with, or it will hang around until the 2nd coming, taking up space, deteriorating, losing value before finally going for scrap.

Bear in mind 2, 3, 4,5 X scrap price is still better than scrap.
