Just got a d I'll a month ago and dint have the bigger collets, I know how hard it is to fin them ,I saw a post here about a homemade adapter for the spindle, and it got me thinking about an adapter I have been thinking about making for it. I used a kennametal nmtb 30 tg 75 collet holder.ompictures it is keyed to the spindle all I removed was the factory drive keys the parts are not hardened yet had less than .001 runout on .750 endmill shank. Ordered a da 180 collet holde I think it will fit with no modifications to my tooling.

I wonder how much farther from the spindle bearings that puts your cutter...My 2d has had the spindle opened up to accept R8 tooling and I wonder how much rigidity i lose when I use end mill holders....You can get closer to the spindle bearings with collets, but all know the pitfalls of end mills with R8 collets and heavy milling...Keep us posted.. Cheers; Ramsay 1:)

Thanks for the reply I did some measurements and my guess is a standard length .750 endmill will have about an 1.5 inch longer stick out if you would shave the endmill all the way up into the spindle with the K&t collet I estimate a 2.00 stick out here are some photos thanks

Kearney Trecker D model universal attachment retrofit

Thought I would add some photos of an adaptor for the drive gear on the universal attachment on a Kearney Trecker D rotary D milling machine. I have a 1972 machine with the no.30 taper spindle, the attachment had the B3 drive gear and B3 collets in spindle of attachment. The adaptor I made loses about 2 inches on rotary head spindle.i am uploading a short video on YouTube of the attachment thanks ed

That's the gear we were discussing.. It appears to made for the b3 spindle..Another one I have the head for and no drive gear lol...I would have to adapt it to my machine if I had one as mine is now R8......Good job! Ramsay 1:)

2D Universal milling Attachment

Here is the Universal Milling Attachment with its clothes off.. Some of the parts anyhow....As usual, no drive gear and I have had this unit for years torn down in a bucket on the second floor of my shop.....Even if I found a B3 drive gear, I could not use the unit as my mill no longer accepts B3 tooling as it is now R8... I am still puzzled by the collet needed for the business end of this unit.. It is tapered and has drive keys within the bore of the spindle..Cheers; Ramsay 1:)
