There is a 1941 Sidney Tritrol for sale in Buffalo, NY on Facebook marketplace. Its is a 16spd herringbone headstock model. Priced at $1,500 but Ill wager its going to go to scrap if nobody takes it. Its dirty but it has tool steel ways and whoever was running it had it in the same shop since 1957 apparently.

You can see the headstock has the bump out on the back which identifies it as a herringbone headstock vs the square headstock with spur gears. (from my research anyways, see my evidence and you decide)

I briefly corresponded with the woman handling the sale and it seems like its an old shop being cleaned out. Seems most everything is gone and they have riggers coming in a few weeks to clean it out.

I dont mean to clutter up the antique forum but it would be a shame to see this machine fall into the wrong hands! If I wasnt so far away and wasnt going to be moving Id probably take this project on. I have been looking for a Sidney for a long time but am holding out for a TA and maybe lead screw reverse if the lord smiles upon me :)

Might want to post in the "Heavy Iron" section as well.

I don't think I've ever seen a Sidney milling machine. That ad is the first mention I've seen of them.

What does the "Tritrol" name mean? Just a reference to the three speed control levers?

My Tri Trol brochure is dated December 1932 so they made them a good while

Yes on control levers - and to suggest where the idea came from - there was an earlier MONOTROL - with a big four spoke (handles) control on face of head stock
