Is China the New Japan

The Irish pop-economist David McWilliams has a nice podcast discussing the striking parallels between China today, and Japan circa 1990....

177 - Is China the new Japan? | The David McWilliams Podcast on Acast

Didn't stay past the adverts, but if he's just now noticing? The cyclical "stagflation" is an age-old pattern for China.

The current rota started about five or six years ago. It should run its usual course. 100 to 300 years, each go, historically.

See, for example:

China’s Economic Rise: History, Trends, Challenges, and Implications for the United States - EveryCRSReport.com

Within which eyeball:

Figure 6. U.S. and Chinese Annual Real GDP Growth Rates in 2010-2018 and Projections through 2050 (percentage) Source: EIU Database (accessed on June 24, 2019).

There are several OTHER sources as well.

COVID's consequences have pushed the decline-trend forward, debt and property bubble, "containergeddon" as well.

Not new news, IOW. But expect a short-ton of Johhny-Jump-Ups to run to the head of the parade and proclaim themselves visionary!

NB: That does not mean every OTHER society is "just peachy", BTW.

Each has its OWN set of problems!

The discussion was about how China dramatically shifted their economic policy starting in about 2010 (at our strong urging), and ended up embarking on a credit bubble in real estate just like Japan did in the 1980s...concluding in a crash around 1990. Building 65,000,000 apartment/homes that are now unoccupied is not the "same old pattern" as you contend. The question addressed is how they will manage the bubble/crash, and what the international impact will be. There were also a few prior podcasts about the massive cultural crackdown that China started in the last few years.

I don't "contend" Pilgrim. I study China's history. Do yah good to try it yerself.

Start just before what they call the "Spring and Autumn Period" and roll forward.

For extra credit?

Track the luxury tours of North America, Laguna Seca, La Brea Tarpits, Grand Canyon of the Colorado, Black Canyon of the Gunnisson, trade with Central America....Australia.. New Zealand, and India.. that well-traveled Chinese considered a proper 'Grand Tour" of the "all under heaven".

During the "Warring States" period. Roughly 2000 years BEFORE a Chinese Grand Admiral put his fleet into Venice... and helped spark our own "renaissance".. with about 70 or 80 copies of their equivalent of a junior Woodchuck "how-to" manual.

I did say "cyclical?"

Vlad Putin.. economic vassal to a Chinese Emperor "in the current era"
Same as "Prince" Alexander Nevsky. last go.

The more things change...

Boom and bust, economic shenanigans, expansion and contraction, are a dozen millennia older than a "podcast".

At least...

The Chinese made probably the most momentous discovery in history....that the masses would accept worthless paper money in lieu of value, and so make the empire infinitely rich ...then made the second most important discovery in history.....inflation... to steal money from the masses without using force by simply printing more money.

So I guess we need to drop some nukes on China lol

Why d'yah think they were so paranoid about that as to buy the US Government, cripple it, then rent it back to us at such outrageous prices to recover their investment?

248 cities larger than Taizhou at just under two million population.

World City Populations 2021

If PRC lost all the ones above 2 million - or even only FIVE million - in China, their industry would be ruined and the Communist Party wouldn't survive.
Feudal "Warlord times" would return. Again.

If USA lost all of our cities above 2 or 5 million, the Democratic Party wouldn't survive.
"Free-Enterprise" times would return. Again.

US industry wouldn't be harmed. Mostly, it is not IN the cities.

Safe bet neither side is going to risk such a conflict?

Not NOW, anyway... Too late.

A year ago? We'll probably never know...

The time for nukes has passed.

We are in the Biowarfare + Psychological warfare => Economic Warfare era.

As with MOST influenzas, the "Spanish" flu" came out of China, too.
As did SARS & MERS.

Lest we forget.

Are we losing, again?

Maybe not.

Genetics thing. Diverse society. Diverse immune systems.

Bugs that bite "Gweilo" usually DIE. And they die one HELLUVA lot more often than the Gweilo dies... been that way since Big Bang.

Sockdologous old windbag.

Repeating yourself every time you lose the argument, is it?

New higher Tariffs from trade talks

Ever cross your bent little rented and dented mind it might not mean what YOU wished it meant?

Sockdologer Definition & Meaning | Dictionary.com

Recycled "insults" or accidental praise.. it must be life-long torture to know that so very MANY others see more clearly the way the world really is ... than you sad malfunctionals ever could.

Helpless, you looter, lie, bore-all cretins are, at core.

Crippled by your own delusions. Annoying. But impotent.

Congenital parasites .. victims of events, never the shapers of them.. that's all you get in life.. a career trying to find sustenance off the passing flow of ignorant gut waste of the productive folks.

Useless parasite.. is exactly what it says it is.

Go figure that would EVER change?

:D

^ Nah, I think it applies okay here. Like your idol, the Great Orange Babboon, when faced with anything outside your limited experience or understandig, all you can do is lash out blindly. And the windbag part is self-evident.

It took EG a total of two posts before he brought up Trump
Are you and Big B one and the same, be honest now

Two posts? First was just a feint, then.

Those two the same?

Nah. Simply cojoined at the anal sphincter with the rest of their Marxist looter-collective.

That's what makes them so noisy.

Can't void.

They have to settle for keeping score out loud as they trade back and forth.

What's hard to understand is why Cluster-F**k Joy Buyed-in and new-mommy Buddygag are being criticized when they finally did something of positive value:

Let Chinese containerships rust at anchor and pretend it isn't on-purpose.

Speaking of China, they just did a successful test of a nuclear-capable hypersonic gliding vehicle that traveled around the globe before cruising to the target.
US intelligence and military officials are stunned and have no clue how they obtained the tech.

China is denying what it is, saying it was a space test of some sort.

"military officials are stunned and have no clue how they obtained the tech"....Heck, probably hired some of our best and brightest. Should be plenty looking for jobs......"plaintiffs include scientists, nuclear engineers, project managers, research technicians and others who have some of the highest security clearances in the nation for the work they do. Some employees said many of those who could lose their jobs are specialists in their fields and would be difficult to replace in the short term." Dozens of US nuclear lab workers sue over vaccine mandate – WWLP

And I wonder how many of them have natural immunity, Like I do

And I wonder how many of them have natural immunity, Like I do

That ain't the REAL problem.

The REAL problem is the sewercidal Demoncraptic-Looter Party having natural immunity to good sense.

Someone sold them the idea that Hell was a better deal - non-judgemental, no "accountability" - free drugs.. wotever - than Heaven and the trip could be paid for in six-star luxury ...with Other People's lives and money.

Why, ever, would they let such a bargain escape the greedy grasp of their crippled little-heads?
