Angled head grinding

Looking at an Okuma cnc cylindrical grinder what stood out was the wheel head is angled instead of straight.

Got me thinking, If i angle the head on my TOS it would allow me to easily dress the side for grinding faces, Most of my parts are a shaft with a face that needs to be ground square to the diameter.

Dressing the side of the wheel is a pain, and i take it the large surface area works against me getting a lovely finish.

What are the pro/cons of doing this?

My Landis had a 5* angle head, like you are describing. Plenty of other grinders have a 45* angle, but the 5* was nice for normal grinding too. Works very well.

Go for it, but possibly your infeed will be off, depending on how the machine is designed.

Thanks! I was limited to approx 5 deg otherwise i would not be able to reach in far enough, i grind down to 6mm Dia with some parts. Much easier dressing the now small side edge! Will get to try it our when a batch of parts return from heat treatment.
