    If it still grinds a good grind..Then get into the habit of a 1/3 - 1/2 or so RPM jog stat..let it slow to near stop or stop and than fire it up...With that it may last another 20 years..

    Yes to Richard's sound check because if it is in the drive you should fix it..

    THANK YOU for posting this thread. I also have an old direct drive BS612 with noisy bearings. The machine was well used and sloppy. I tightened up the feed handle set screw, tightened the elevating lead screw nut but still have lost motion in it.

    I looked for parts suppliers for these machines but couldn't find any?

    This is the prefect size machine for a home shop, too bad they don't make them anymore.
