Converting old permanent chuck to electromagnetic one?

Hi all!

I have an old weak permanent magnet chuck and I have been considering to convert it to electromagnetic operation.

I have seen this really cheap coils that promise 180kgs of pulling force at 12v:

Electromagnetic electric magnetic door lock 6KG/18KG/28KG electronic lock 12V Waterproof/Signal feedback/Time Delay/embedded-in Access Control Kits from Security & Protection on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

I suspect I am missing something for sure as the typical electromagnetic chucks draw around 1Amp at 100v (this gives 100 Watts) while this cheap ones draws only 0.4A @ 12V (4.8 Watts).

That´s a huge difference! What am I missing?

Thank you fellows!!

Be fore you jump to deep into the conversion, see if there are any Neodymium magnets that match your size or are close enough to adapt. The prices have really come down and they are many times stronger than the iron based old style. They don't lose their strength like iron ones do.

I changed out some in a cheap mag v-block,like ten times stronger.
