I'm looking for advice on how to properly use a diamond cutoff wheel on my surface grinder. I'm going to be using the cutoff to cut and slit alumina ceramic parts. I have experience grinding alumina, just not using a diamond cutoff.
I'm going to be using a 6" cutoff disc, .035" width (with plenty of coolant, of course). What sort of DOC should I start with? .005"?
As far as mounting the wheel, I picked up a separate mount, made a bushing, and have balanced the wheel. Is it ok to have the bushing on one side only? The mounting arrangement is arbor back (closest to spindle), cutoff, bushing, washer, and arbor nut. The bushing is the same OD as the arbor itself (2.25"), and is 6061 AL.
Any hints, tricks, etc is appreciated.
