Do you turn and/or grind centers?

I have seen some less than precise center sockets. How is it possible to get repeatability if that locating surface is not accurate? What are grinding shops doing? Or better yet what do you do?

I set up my work piece in a spin fixture (Harig,Newbould) and put it on a mag sine at 30 degrees on a surface grinder.I use a high speed head on the spindle with a Borazon jig grinding wheel that has been dressed true with a diamond and then opened up with a water soaked dressing stick.Make sure you indicate the spindle or bore of the high speed head with an indicator mounted on the spin fixture while the mag sine is at zero degrees or you won't grind the proper 30 degree angle.I jig grind larger pieces on an angular spin table on the jig grinder.

i do all mine on a k o lee tool & cutter grinder with a motorized k o lee work head. works perfectly. the 60 degree comes out right on the money with a beautiful finish. kenny
