Being asked to quote some parts that have a .0001 - .0002" thick TiN plating. Four surfaces have to be surface ground after plating (no plating allowed on those surfaces). How much of a headache is this? Will it need to be done with a diamond wheel? Base material is 17-4 stainless at 40 -45 R/C.

You wouldn't want to use diamond, but CBN might give you piece of mind.

But depending on how deep you're grinding (.001" pass OK?) you might just use a good AlOx wheel or maybe a seeded gel type. Cut below the coating and I'd think you'd be fine.
