H T Schudin work head

Hi guys
I have a friend with a nice Ht Schudin and the work head is locked up he said it worked then stoped. Have any of you opened one of these up? Here's a picture of the head

My understanding is that assembly contains a Contraves variator.

Hauser gives a description of the assembly and its parts starting on page 21 of the 2BA jib bore manual Link ==> (146mb PDF)

On page 24, titled "ZUR BEACHTUNG", Hauser says: "Wir machen unsere Kunden ausdrücklich daraurf aufmerksam, dass wir für selbstausgefürte Reparaturen und Reivensionen keinen Gewähr bieten konnen un empfelhlen, deise nach Möglichkeit durch uns ausführen zu lassen".

Roughly: "TAKE NOTICE" "We expressly draw your attention to the fact that we can not guarantee self-made repairs and revisions, let us them do when possible".

I have one that runs backwards at one extent of the speed range, and so am interested in how you approach this.
