Default Ko Lee Surface Grinder - Are they any good?

I am looking to buy a home shop surface grinder and have found a Ko-lee in better than average shape for $1000 with a magnetic chuck.

I know this is a loaded question, but anyone have an opinion?

KO Lee made excellent grinders. I have no strong opinion on the price without seeing the machine and what tooling (if any beyond) the mag chuck it comes with.

Just from what you say price sounds very good !
Check out the ways of the machine for contamination, scoring or lack of lube. Smooth operation and minimal backlash and no stick slip or anything funny on the Z and you should have a keeper.
Make sure to take it apart when it gets home for a thorough cleaning and inspection and you will be set for life.

They don't make them like this anymore applies here.

I have a 618 I bought out of Michigan 6 years or so ago for $450. I use mine fairly often and have had no problems with it.

One thing to look out for is the "oil wheels" for lack of a better term that sit in troughs under the table in the bed. They are basically small discs that roll as the table goes back and forth and spread oil onto the underside of the table. My grinder had several broken or missing when I got it and I had to make some replacements.

I have the manual posted in the manuals section here.
