Hello everyone. I have some questions about Satisloh machines and grinding ceramics. I am a student who is working part time with a Satisloh machine so I'd like to learn from you experienced guys. My questions are below. I appreciate any answer for any of these questions. Thank you.

1. I want to grind a flat ceramic part to 0.6 mm. Diameter is about 65 mm. How can I produce very flat surfaces? I need to grind both two surfaces. I cant use wax/cementing. Vacuum seems suitable but I am not sure if it is precise enough. How should hold the workpiece?

2. How accurate/precise are the Satisloh/Loh machines (Spm-200 especially)? Can I produce super flat and thin parts with it? 0.005 mm deviation in 50 mm for example.

3. How reliable/accurate is measuring probe of the machine? It measures different values at the same spot. Sometimes the differences are up to 0.003-0.004 mm.

4. What can I do to prevent edge lifting while using vacuum to hold the part? Elastic tape? Double-sided tape?

Thank you.

I doubt many of us have experience on such specialized machines. But their website:

CNC Grinding Machines | Satisloh Precision Optics - Satisloh

does offer an "ask a question" field, and I'd suggest you take advantage of it.

Especially, the lack of repeatability of the probe should be addressed.

For simple processes like taking a disk to a specific thickness, you might find that a lapping machine is a better option, although there it can be advantageous to do multiple parts at a time rather than just one.
