Hi everyone,
Perhaps a difficult task, machining alumina made small cylindrical seal. Im having much trouble to obtain a squareness below 0.01mm between front face and outer diameter.

Nominal dimension are OD 4.5mm, thickness 2mm

Any feedback or experience would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

How are you holding it? In what machine? Using what tooling? How are you measuring it? Etc.

More info is good...

So first idea was to work with a vertical rotary grinder with fixture and magnetic table (disc plate 2mm thick with 100 hole equally spaced), grinding one side then flipping and grinding other side, measure with 3d touch probe, average mean of such process was around 0.025mm with broad sigma :(

Then worked on roundness of hole on the fixture, never ending cycle of improvement

Tried grinding the face with more conventional methods, polishing fixture.

The more i try the more i find limit on both material roughness and ratio between thickness and diameter to hold the part with confidence... this kind of alumina is eating every kind of fixture like hell
