New to this forum, not sure if this is the right place for this:

I picked up an Okamoto linear 6x18, the manual calls for Vaculine 1405, which I understand is used for machines that have common lube & hydraulic system.

Question: It's a manual machine (no hydraulics), I can only find 1405 in 5 gallon buckets, that's probably a 90 year supply for me. Can I substitute Vactra #1, or do I really need the 1405?

Thanks, joel-

Do a forum search using the keyword "Vaculine" .

The difference between the two oils is in the tactifier additive and its stability when exposed to the grinder coolant. The tactifier is used to keep the oil from running off the vertical ways of the grinder. The word "tactifier" is also spelled as "tackifier" in the forum posts.
