Default Any Sources Out There for clean, used Lapping Plates?

I acquired a really cool, ancient 12" Crane/Lapmaster Lapping machine. It came without the conditioning rings or the lapping plate.

I'm going to buy the conditioning rings direct from them, which are about $100 a throw. However, the lapping plate, with tax and shipping, will be over $500. I consider this a fair price for a brand new, high-quality part direct from a quality manufacturer. However, for a year or two I will mainly be using this machine for leveling and not polishing.

Are there any sources out there to acquire these plates as used, or can I make my own for less? A buddy tells me MSC sells a basic cast iron disc for about $100, but then I have to have a machinist prep and level it.

Apologies for being a total newb in this area. You guys are always great at educating others on stuff like this.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions and ideas.
